Enterprise Dashboard Redesign

Redesigned a complex analytics dashboard serving 10,000+ enterprise users, reducing task completion time by 40%.

Duration: 6 monthsYear: 2024

Challenge

The existing dashboard was built over five years with inconsistent patterns, making it difficult for users to find key metrics and complete common tasks.

Approach

Conducted user research with 20+ enterprise customers, mapped core workflows, and iterated through low-fidelity prototypes before refining the visual design.

Solution

A modular dashboard system with customizable widgets, consistent data visualization patterns, and a clear information hierarchy.

Impact

40% reduction in task completion time, 25% decrease in support tickets related to navigation, and a 15% increase in daily active users.

Reflection

The key insight was that enterprise users need flexibility, not simplicity. Giving them control over their workspace was more valuable than reducing features.

Overview

The enterprise dashboard serves financial analysts who monitor real-time risk metrics across multiple portfolios. The original interface had grown organically, resulting in cognitive overload and slow decision-making.

Challenge

Users had to navigate through 15+ screens to complete what should have been a three-click workflow. Key metrics were buried under nested menus, and the absence of consistent design patterns made learning the system unnecessarily difficult.

My Approach

I started by shadowing users during their daily workflows. This revealed that analysts switch between monitoring mode and investigation mode throughout the day — a distinction the original design ignored.

Solution

The new design separates monitoring from investigation. The primary view shows critical metrics with configurable thresholds and alerts. Clicking through leads to progressively detailed views without losing context.

Impact

The redesign reduced the average time to identify and act on risk events from 12 minutes to under 3 minutes.
